Due to its stiffness and low wear properties, tungsten carbide is often the preferred electrode material for applications requiring small holes put in by Sinker EDM. Since tungsten carbide is very brittle, it is best utilized with rotating spindles that have tilt and centering adjustments, as the carbide cannot be trued in the spindle by bending.

SST Consumables offers tungsten carbide tubing for Sinker EDM manufactured from grade C-2 tungsten carbide from .012”diameter to .255” diameter. These tubes are 6” long (12” also available) and are centerless ground to a tolerance of +/-.0002” Note: Since I.D. size and concentricity are reference dimensions, they are not quoted to tolerance.
